The government has seized properties worth approximately Rs 50 crore from the estate of slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, properties purportedly acquired through illicit activities.

District Government Advocate (Criminal) Gulab Chandra Agrahari revealed that Atiq had purchased 2.377 hectares of land under the name of mason Hoobalal, financed by proceeds from crime.

Authorities had initially attached the land under Section 14 (1) of the Gangsters Act, demanding evidence from the concerned party. However, no proof of legitimate ownership was presented. Subsequently, the Police Commissioner Court and later the Gangster Court ruled in favor of the government's action.
