A laboratory assistant from Latur district in Maharashtra has been arrested for allegedly accepting a Rs 400 bribe from a woman, an official reported on Wednesday. The bribe was demanded to issue a school leaving certificate for the woman's sister, which was needed to avail benefits under the government's 'Mazi Ladki Bahin' scheme, offering a monthly allowance of Rs 1,500.
The 45-year-old accused, who also handled office work, received the bribe request and the woman subsequently reported it to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The ACB set a trap and caught the laboratory assistant in the act on Tuesday, as confirmed by the official. Following the arrest, the Deoni police registered a case against the accused based on the ACB's complaint.
