Security Forces Neutralize 12 Naxalites in Gadchiroli Encounter

At least 12 Naxalites were killed and two security personnel injured during an intense encounter with police and C60 commandos in Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra, near the Chhattisgarh border on Wednesday, officials reported.

The heavy exchange of fire occurred in the afternoon in Wandoli village, lasting six hours, according to Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Nilotpal.

The police recovered 12 Maoist bodies and seven firearms, including three AK-47s, two INSAS rifles, a carbine, and an SLR from the scene.

One of the deceased Naxalites was identified as DVCM Laxman Atram alias Vishal Atram, the incharge of Tipagad Dalam.

Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a Rs 51 lakh reward for the C60 commando teams and Gadchiroli Police, Nilotpal confirmed.

Further identification of the Maoists and area investigation is ongoing.

The injured security personnel, including a sub-inspector of C60 and a jawan, are reported to be out of danger and have been evacuated to Nagpur.
