The Karnataka government on Wednesday temporarily put on hold the bill that mandated reservations for Kannadigas in the private sector.

The Karnataka State Employment of Local Candidates in the Industries, Factories and Other Establishments Bill, 2024, approved by the state Cabinet on Tuesday, intended to ensure local hiring within private sector organizations, industries, and enterprises.

According to the bill, fifty per cent of local candidates were to be appointed in management categories and seventy per cent in non-management categories. However, due to criticism from business leaders and tech tycoons, the government decided to revisit and make further decisions on the bill in the coming days.
