Deputies' Warrant Service Turns Deadly in Georgia

Sheriff's deputies serving a warrant in northeast Georgia ended up shooting and killing two people on Tuesday.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office reported that their deputies were in Banks County's Alto to arrest a sex offender for probation violations.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, deputies arrived around 9:30 a.m., entering the home around 11 a.m., where they fatally shot two individuals.

Officials have not disclosed the events leading up to the shooting, and it's unclear why deputies opened fire. Both individuals died before they reached the hospital.

No deputies were injured during the incident. Banks County deputies were present but did not partake in the shooting.

The GBI, which is conducting autopsies, will release the names of the deceased after notifying their relatives. They are also investigating whether either of the killed individuals was armed.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is conducting a parallel investigation, and the Banks County district attorney will determine if criminal charges are warranted after the investigation concludes.
