The All Tiwa Students' Union (ATSU) has declared a series of protest actions against the Assam government, alleging neglect of the Tiwa community.
Addressing the media, ATSU President Cheniram Malang emphasized that the organization has worked for decades to address the needs of the Tiwa people and other indigenous communities in Central Assam.
ATSU demands constitutional status under the 6th Schedule and claims that government funding for the Tiwa Council has been consistently reduced. Malang also highlighted the unfulfilled promise of land allocation for the Jonbeel Mela by the Chief Minister. A series of protests including sit-ins and blockades are planned.
