Saurabh Gaikwad, the son of former Pune deputy mayor and NCP politician Bandu Gaikwad, allegedly caused an accident by driving his SUV recklessly on the wrong side of the road in Pune, injuring himself and two others, police reported on Wednesday.
The accident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday on Manjari-Mundhwa Road, involved Gaikwad's Tata Harrier and a tempo transporting chickens. A viral video on social media shows the SUV ramming into the tempo.
All three injured, including the tempo driver and his associate, are undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Police have lodged a complaint against Gaikwad and are investigating whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
