Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed the state's commitment to tackling child marriage, announcing plans for biannual crackdowns.
Following an NGO report showing an 81% decline in instances, he emphasized the importance of legal action and community engagement in eradicating this social evil.
With data from the National Crime Record Bureau and a survey across 20 districts, Sarma highlighted the significant progress and the government's zero-tolerance approach, which has resulted in over 3,000 arrests since 2021.
