South Korea has announced that North Korea launched balloons possibly filled with trash toward South Korean territory.

The balloons were observed flying north of Seoul, which is approximately an hour's drive from the border, on Thursday afternoon, according to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff.

This move follows North Korea's promise to retaliate against South Korean civilian activities, such as leafleting campaigns.
