Family Seeks President’s Help to Rescue Ex-Serviceman Stuck in Russian Army

Family members of Urgen Tamang, an ex-serviceman from Kalimpong, are seeking President Droupadi Murmu's intervention to bring him back from Russia, where he was allegedly forced to join the Russian army. Tamang had traveled to Russia for employment but went missing after being sent to the frontlines.

In an interview with PTI, Rabi Pradhan, chairman of the board of administrators of Kalimpong municipality, revealed that he had sent multiple letters to officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, but received no response. The last known contact with Urgen was on Monday evening.

Urgen’s wife, Ambika, and his two daughters remain in Kalimpong, anxiously awaiting news. Pradhan noted that despite recent diplomatic efforts between India and Russia, there has been no indication of Urgen's return. The family remains hopeful that a letter to the President might yield positive results.
