Uproar in Legislative Assembly Over Financial Irregularities in State-Run Corporation

The Karnataka Legislative Assembly erupted in turmoil on Thursday due to allegations of financial irregularities in a state-run corporation. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, under fire from the opposition BJP, staunchly denied any involvement, highlighting a spotless political career spanning four decades.

The BJP demanded Siddaramaiah's resignation, and Congress members questioned the Enforcement Directorate's motives, suggesting the probe aimed to destabilise the state government. The controversy centers on the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Ltd, which came under scrutiny following the suicide of its accounts superintendent, Chandrasekharan P.

Revelations from Chandrasekharan's suicide note uncovered an unauthorized transfer of Rs 187 crore from the corporation's bank account, with Rs 88.62 crore allegedly diverted to IT companies and a Hyderabad-based cooperative bank. Amid these allegations, Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister B Nagendra resigned and is now in ED custody, further fueling the political firestorm.
