A political scandal has erupted following the alleged suicide of a Dalit sub-inspector, who was transferred within seven months of his posting. Congress MLA Channareddy Tannur and his son Pampanagouda Tannur have been accused of demanding Rs 30 lakh from the officer, forcing him to continue in his position.

With the case sparking widespread controversy, the state government has tasked the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) with handling the probe. Sources within the Home Department confirmed the development to PTI.

The controversy escalated as members of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) and the officer’s pregnant wife, Shwetha, staged a road blockade demanding justice. Shwetha alleged that she has been left unsupported by the police department while the MLA enjoys their backing.
