The Colombian government on Monday approved the establishment of a 'social-judicial conversation space' with the Clan del Golfo, the nation's largest criminal gang, to gauge their readiness to comply with the rule of law and discuss terms for their potential surrender.
This initiative forms a core part of efforts by leftist President Gustavo Petro to terminate Colombia's six decades of internal strife, which have claimed more than 450,000 lives.
