Ukrainian special forces carried out an amphibious raid on the Russian-controlled Kinburn Spit in the northwest Black Sea on Friday, effectively destroying six armored vehicles and eliminating about three dozen Russian soldiers, as confirmed by Ukraine's military intelligence agency.
Russian troops had occupied the Kinburn Spit, a strategic location in the Mykolaiv region, following their full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The loss of this vantage point has significantly impacted Ukraine's ability to reopen and operate its Black Sea ports of Mykolaiv and Kherson.
"During the raid on the Russian-occupied Kinburn Spit, six enemy armored vehicles were destroyed and approximately three dozen invaders were neutralized," stated the Ukrainian agency. Contrarily, Russia's defense ministry reported they had repelled the raid, citing mine casualties and firearm confrontations that led to the loss of 16 Ukrainian soldiers, according to Interfax news agency. In a related effort, Ukrainian forces conducted operations on Tendra Spit and launched new offensives in western Russia's Kursk region.
