Himachal Pradesh's rural water consumers will no longer benefit from free water supply. Domestic consumers with an annual income above Rs 50,000 are now required to pay a monthly fee of Rs 100.
Commercial establishments, including hotels and home-stays, will be billed based on kilolitre consumption, as per the State Cabinet's latest decision aimed at increasing revenue and reducing subsidies.
The funds collected will be used to enhance the quality of drinking water, according to statements from officials. However, specific underprivileged groups such as widows, destitute, single women, and the handicapped will continue to receive free water.
