Philippines Condemns Chinese Air Force Actions at Scarborough Shoal

The Philippine military has issued a strong condemnation of what it described as 'dangerous and provocative actions' by China's air force at the contested Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea.

According to a statement released on Saturday, a People's Liberation Army Air Force aircraft executed a dangerous manoeuvre and dropped flares in the path of a Philippine air force aircraft while it was conducting a routine maritime patrol on Thursday.

The incident has heightened tensions between the two nations, who both claim sovereignty over the strategically significant shoal.
