A 28-year-old domestic help and her male accomplice have been apprehended for allegedly pilfering Rs 49 lakh from a residence in South Delhi's Hauz Khas locality, police reported on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan stated that the theft transpired on August 7, with a formal complaint lodged the following day at Hauz Khas Police Station. During the investigation, police discovered the house help had absconded, with her phone switched off. Subsequently, CCTV footage was examined to gain insights.
'The alleged maid's photograph was disseminated to interstate informers, but initial raids at suspected hideouts yielded no results,' the DCP noted. Upon investigating her call records, police identified frequent communication with a person named Mubarik.
Authorities tracked Mubarik's location to Panipat, Haryana, where both suspects were arrested. They confessed to the crime, and the stolen cash was recovered. The woman disclosed during interrogation that she had been living with 34-year-old Mubarik in Shahpur Jat following her husband's death and had worked as a cook for the past year.
