Bangladesh's interim government expressed its intent to strengthen relations with India, according to Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain. However, he noted that statements from deposed premier Sheikh Hasina, currently in India, were counterproductive to these aims.

The development follows a meeting between Hossain and Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma, where they discussed recent violence in Bangladesh, including attacks on minorities. Hossain emphasized the interim government's commitment to peaceful coexistence and pluralistic democracy, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.

Verma congratulated Hossain on his new role and attended the oath-taking ceremony of the interim government. Both parties highlighted the importance of people-centric engagement, fair elections, and improving overall law and order as primary goals moving forward.
