A retired 69-year-old bank employee, distraught over the demolition of his shop by the Indore Municipal Corporation's anti-encroachment team, allegedly took his own life on Wednesday.
Anil Yadav, a resident of Chandralok Colony, reportedly hanged himself in his flat, as confirmed by a police officer. His suicide note cited the demolition of his shop as the reason for his drastic step.
Yadav's son, Vikram, explained that his father operated a small general store in a residential apartment post-retirement. Neighbors had reportedly complained to the municipal corporation, accusing Yadav of encroachment, and spread misinformation about him on social media. According to Vikram, the corporation served them a notice on Monday evening and demolished the shop the next morning, without providing a chance to remove their belongings. A municipal corporation official stated that the shop's demolition was conducted after thorough investigation of the residents' complaints.
