Chad inaugurated a consulate in Western Sahara on Wednesday, aligning with several African and Arab nations that have established diplomatic missions in the region. This move signifies support for Morocco's sovereignty over the disputed area.
Morocco views Western Sahara as part of its territory, a claim contested by the Algeria-backed Polisario Front, which aims to create an independent state there.
To date, 29 countries have demonstrated their backing of Morocco's claim by opening consulates in the Western Sahara cities of Layoune and Dakhla.
