Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil on Tuesday demanded that the state government provide immediate aid to flood-affected farmers of Marathwada, without citing the election code of conduct as a reason for the delay.

Patil was speaking in a party meeting organised to felicitate of Subhash Sabane, the BJP's candidate for the bypolls from the Deglur Assembly constituency.

Heavy rains and floods have caused huge losses to farmers, and hence, the BJP has demanded Rs 60,000 per hectare relief for soybean and Rs 1 lakh per hectare for sugarcane, Patil said.

Citing that the election code of conduct does not preclude disaster relief, the state BJP said an order for the financial aid should be issued immediately.

Patil further said that by announcing its candidates first, the BJP has taken the lead in the by-election. The BJP had won the Pandharpur Assembly bypolls, and won polls in 6,500 of 15,000 gram panchayats.

''By winning the seat of Deglur Biloli, we want to show the MVA government that even if three parties come together, we will defeat them,'' Patil said.

Voters are determined to help Subhash Sabne win in this constituency and the result of this bypoll will accelerate the transformation of the state.

BJP MP Pratap Patil Chikhlikar, former minister of state Sadabhau Khot and other dignitaries were present for the function.

Meanwhile, the Congress has declared Jitesh Anantapurkar, the son of Congress MLA Raosaheb Antapurkar, whose death necessitated the by-elections in Deglur, as its candidate.
