Mohinder Bhagat Takes Oath as Newly Elected AAP MLA from Jalandhar West

Mohinder Bhagat, the new AAP MLA from Jalandhar West, was sworn in by Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan. Bhagat won the bypolls by defeating BJP's Sheetal Angural with a margin of 37,325 votes. The seat was left vacant after Angural, who joined BJP in March, resigned.

Mohinder Bhagat, the newly elected AAP MLA from Jalandhar West, was administered the oath of office by Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Wednesday. The ceremony was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Bhagat emerged victorious in the bypoll, defeating BJP's Sheetal Angural by a margin of 37,325 votes. The by-election was held on July 10, with the results announced on July 13. The seat became vacant after Angural resigned as the AAP legislator and joined the BJP in March.

Polling 55,246 votes against Angural's 17,921, Bhagat, son of former minister and BJP MLA Bhagat Chunni Lal, secured the assembly seat. Bhagat joined AAP last year after quitting the BJP, having previously contested unsuccessfully in 2017 and 2022 on BJP tickets.
