US' Interest in Tibet Driven by Rivalry with China, Claims Former NSA Menon

Former national security adviser Shivshankar Menon claimed that the US' primary motivation for passing the 'Resolve Tibet Act' is its rivalry with China, not concern for Tibet.

Speaking at the launch of former diplomat Dilip Sinha's book 'Imperial Games in Tibet: The Struggle for Statehood and Sovereignty', Menon emphasized the limited commitment of the US to Tibet. He stated that the act is driven by American interests in countering China.

US President Joe Biden recently signed the 'Resolve Tibet Act' into law, promoting dialogue between China and the Dalai Lama and countering Chinese disinformation. China has opposed the act, describing it as destabilizing. Menon praised India’s efforts to preserve Tibetan culture and identity.
