Nepal's PM Oli to Face Confidence Vote Amid Political Turmoil

Nepal's newly appointed Prime Minister, K P Sharma Oli, will take a vote of confidence in Parliament on July 21, a senior official announced on Wednesday.

The 72-year-old veteran Communist leader was sworn in on Monday as the Himalayan nation's prime minister for the fourth time, along with 21 other Cabinet members.

Oli, who needs to secure a vote of confidence from Parliament within 30 days of his appointment as required by Nepal's Constitution, is expected to do so easily. The coalition government, led by his Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) and the Nepali Congress, commands a majority in the House of Representatives.

His appointment, however, faces legal challenges, with a writ filed in the Supreme Court claiming his appointment was unconstitutional.
