Democrats will convene a virtual vote in the first week of August to officially nominate President Joe Biden, following his underwhelming debate performance. The plan reflects Biden's resistance to stepping down despite some calls within his party to do so.

The Democratic National Convention's rules committee is slated to meet on Friday to discuss and finalize the voting arrangements next week, as confirmed by a letter obtained by The Associated Press.

The letter from co-chairs Bishop Leah D. Daughtry and Gov. Tim Walz specifies that the virtual vote will occur between August 1 and 7, aligning with Ohio's filing deadline.
