Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam is facing accusations from the opposition of diverting public attention from urgent issues by making controversial statements.
During a visit to Ranchi, Sarma claimed that the Muslim population in Assam had surged to 40 per cent, describing the demographic shift as a significant concern.
Opposition leaders, including Assam Congress President Bhupen Kumar Borah and Trinamool Congress spokesperson Sushmita Dev, challenged the accuracy of Sarma's figures and suggested the claims were a diversion from government inadequacies.
