Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi has called for the withdrawal of a Muzaffarnagar Police order mandating that eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route display the names of their owners. Tyagi argued that this directive could spark communal tension and emphasized that discrimination on the basis of religion or caste should be avoided.

Tyagi pointed out that the Kanwar Yatra, a Hindu pilgrimage, has traversed western Uttar Pradesh for years without reported communal issues. He noted that Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs alike welcome pilgrims and that Muslim artisans contribute to making the 'Kanwars' used in the yatra.

The JD(U) leader urged the district administration to reconsider its decision. He added that while ensuring no anti-social elements run shops is important, such measures should not lead to religious or caste-based discrimination. His call comes amid assurances from Muzaffarnagar Police that the directive is being followed voluntarily to maintain law and order.
