Nationalist Congress Party (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad's vehicle was ambushed on Thursday by individuals reportedly upset over his statements about ex-Rajya Sabha MP Sambhaji Chhatrapati.
In an early evening incident in south Mumbai, three to four perpetrators struck the rear of the MLA's SUV with sticks and threw a stone before fleeing. They also chanted slogans in favor of Sambhaji Chhatrapati.
The police at Dongri station confirmed that an investigation into the attack is ongoing. The issue dates back to Awhad's criticism of Chhatrapati over last month's clashes at Vishalgad fort during an anti-encroachment operation.
