Indian-origin physician Amish Shah has secured a notable victory in the Democratic primary for the First Congressional District in Arizona, edging out primary rival Andrei Cherny and others.
Shah, 47, a former state representative, held a significant lead with 1,629 votes and won by a 23.9 per cent - 21.4 per cent margin over Cherny, who conceded on Thursday.
He will now face incumbent Republican David Schweikert, who has been in office for seven terms, in the upcoming November election.
Shah previously founded the Arizona Vegetarian Food Festival to promote healthy lifestyles and has been a member of the Arizona House of Representatives since 2019.
