Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's Judicial Custody Extended Amid Ongoing Excise Policy Case

The Rouse Avenue court has extended the judicial custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until August 20 in connection with a CBI investigation related to the Delhi Excise policy. Kejriwal appeared before the court through video conferencing from Tihar Jail. Special judge (CBI) Kaveri Baweja approved the CBI's application for the extension.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) previously filed a charge sheet against Kejriwal on July 29 following his June 26 arrest. Despite being granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on July 12, and regular bail on June 20, Kejriwal remains under scrutiny.

Kejriwal was also arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in March on money laundering charges. The court has acknowledged the supplementary charge sheet against him. Additionally, former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, BRS leader K Kavitha, and others have been arrested in connection with the case.

During the Delhi High Court's proceedings, the ED sought a short adjournment to argue for canceling Kejriwal's bail. The court questioned whether the cancellation would lead to his re-arrest, expressing concerns about the potential consequences.
