Assam's Declining Hindu Population: Alarm Over Demographic Invasion

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma sounded an alarm on Friday, highlighting a significant demographic change in Assam and Bangladesh. Using census data to back his claims, he stated that the Hindu population is heading towards a rapid decline.

In a detailed post on X, Sarma warned that similar trends might be observed in West Bengal and Jharkhand. He pointed out that census data from 2021 would likely offer more insights, but data up to 2011 already show a marked shift.

Supporting his claims with statistics, Sarma revealed that the Hindu population in Assam dropped from 70.78% in 1951 to 61.47% in 2011, while in Bangladesh, it fell from 22% to 8.5%. Simultaneously, the Muslim population rose significantly in both regions. Sarma insisted that this data was derived from official census reports, but acknowledged that stating these facts might lead to him being labeled communal.
