Stepping up its attack on the Narendra Modi government, the Congress on Monday threatened a nationwide protest if its demand for a JPC probe into the Hindenburg Research allegations against SEBI chairperson Madhabi Buch is not met.

AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal described the allegations as ''very serious'' and accused the Prime Minister of backing Adani.

''The Prime Minister's silence amounts to a destruction of credibility,'' Venugopal stated, accusing the government of diverting attention using the Enforcement Directorate against Rahul Gandhi.
