India Eyes Strengthened Ties with Bangladesh Under Yunus-Led Interim Government

India has expressed its intention to strengthen ties with Bangladesh under the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, according to Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma. However, Verma did not comment on the duration of ousted leader Sheikh Hasina's stay in India.

Verma made the remarks after meeting with Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a report by The Daily Star stated. This was Verma's first meeting with Hossain since the formation of the interim government.

Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus assumed leadership on Tuesday after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India following significant protests against her administration's controversial job quota system. Despite attending Yunus's oath-taking ceremony, Verma refrained from speculating on Hasina's stay.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his best wishes to Yunus and expressed hopes for a swift return to normalcy and the security of minority communities in Bangladesh.
