The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) clinched an overwhelming victory in the Tripura three-tier Panchayat polls, capturing 97% of the seats, an official confirmed on Wednesday. Most notably, the BJP secured uncontested wins in 71% of the Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, and Zilla Parishads.
The voting for the remaining seats occurred on August 8, with results finalized by Tuesday. The BJP's dominance was evident: the party won 584 out of 606 Gram Panchayats, 34 of 35 Panchayat Samitis, and all eight Zilla Parishads. These results reflect the party's recent success in winning both Lok Sabha seats in Tripura.
State Election Commissioner Asit Kumar Das highlighted that in contested Zilla Parishads, the BJP won 93 of 96 seats. However, opposition parties like the Congress and CPI(M) managed only to secure limited seats. Despite allegations of BJP's intimidation tactics, Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized the strong mandate that reflects continued faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's governance.
