Paetongtarn Shinawatra Endorsed for Prime Minister by Thailand's Governing Alliance

Thailand's governing alliance has endorsed 37-year-old Paetongtarn Shinawatra as its candidate for prime minister, just a day after the dismissal of Srettha Thavisin.

The decision follows a series of intensive talks within the 11-party alliance aimed at forming the next government. Paetongtarn is the daughter of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and niece of Yingluck Shinawatra, both exiled after military coups.

If successful in the upcoming parliamentary vote, Paetongtarn would become Thailand's second female prime minister. The alliance, holding 314 seats, needs approval from more than half of the 493 lawmakers to secure her position.
