World Bank President David Malpass told the bank's staff on Thursday that it was clear that greenhouse gas emissions from human activities were causing climate change, and any other suggestion was "incorrect and regrettable."

Malpass, long criticized by climate change activists, faced calls to resign after declining on Tuesday to say whether he accepts the scientific consensus on global warming.

The Trump-era nominee told staff in a note seen Reuters that he had clarified his views on CNN International, telling that he is not a climate change denier and defending his climate record as bank chief.
