Residential complex for NDMC sanitation workers inaugurated in Jor Bagh

The NDMC said that the complex has come up at a place where there earlier were 130 Type-I flats which had outlived their utility. After a survey report, the old flats were demolished and the Architecture Department of NDMC prepared the plan for construction of new flats on the same land, the statement said.

'Palika Amrit Kaal Niwas,' a newly built residential complex in Aliganj, Jor Bagh, to house NDMC employees, mainly the sanitation workers, has been inaugurated, officials said on Saturday.

The complex was inaugurated Friday in the presence of Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena and Union Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi, a statement issued by the New Delhi Municipal Council said.

Speaking on the occasion, Saxena, who handed over the allotment letters to the occupants, said that the flats were built in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of extending ''dignified living conditions'' to every individual.

He said sanitation workers were the cornerstone upon which the edifice of a healthy and clean society rested, read the statement.

The complex, comprising 200 Type II flats in four 10-storey towers, has been constructed over 8,081 sqm at the cost of Rs 40.33 crore, against the expected expenditure of Rs 49 crore, NDMC said.

Each flat area is 54.36 sqm, it said, adding that there are eight lifts in the complex, with each tower having two lifts.

The housing complex has an earthquake-resisting structure and is equipped with fire alarm and fire fighting systems, the civic body said.

It also has provisions for rainwater harvesting system, and overhead and underground water tanks for fire fighting and domestic water use. The NDMC said that the complex has come up at a place where there earlier were 130 Type-I flats which had outlived their utility. ''After a survey report, the old flats were demolished and the Architecture Department of NDMC prepared the plan for construction of new flats on the same land,'' the statement said.
