Severe Storms Cause Havoc Across US and Canada

Severe storms, characterized by high winds, tornadoes, and flooding, wreaked havoc across the US and Canada this week, officials reported. The extreme weather has caused damage and fatalities from the Plains to New England.

In Arkansas, heavy rainfall led to significant flooding and water rescues in Marion County. The National Weather Service reported that up to 11 inches of rain fell overnight, resulting in washed-out bridges and submerged homes and businesses. New Hampshire and upstate New York also experienced storm damage, and flooding in Toronto temporarily closed major roads.

Illinois and Indiana witnessed considerable devastation with the confirmation of 17 tornadoes, leaving 115,000 homes and businesses without power. In tragic incidents, an elderly couple drowned near Elsah, Illinois, and a 76-year-old man drowned in Rockford, Illinois. A 44-year-old woman in Cedar Lake, Indiana, died after a tree fell on her house.
