Delhi Sees Light Rains and High Humidity on Independence Day

The national capital received light rains at several locations on Thursday as the maximum temperature settled at a normal 34 degrees Celsius, the weather office confirmed.

A cloudy sky, light showers, and high humidity greeted dignitaries and the public at Red Fort, where they listened to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech.

Despite moderate winds, high humidity caused discomfort, prompting some to use handheld fans. In the evening, light rains resumed, with Safdarjung observatory recording 3.2 mm and Lodhi Road observatory 7.4 mm of rainfall.

Delhi's minimum temperature settled at 27.2 degrees Celsius, normal for the season, according to the India Meteorological Department.

The department predicts generally cloudy skies with light rain for Friday, with maximum and minimum temperatures around 33 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively. Humidity levels fluctuated between 92% and 98%.

The city's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the 'satisfactory' category at 71, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. An AQI between zero and 100 is considered 'satisfactory.'
