Bundesliga club Mainz expressed shock and surprise over Japanese media reports claiming that their newly signed player, Kaishu Sano, was arrested in Japan.
The club stated on the social network X, 'We cannot yet evaluate or comment on these reports due to a lack of information. We're trying to clarify the matter as quickly and comprehensively as possible.'
Sano, a defensive midfielder, was signed from Kashima Antlers on July 3 with a four-year contract. He is Mainz's third Japanese signing after Shinji Okazaki and Yoshinori Muto. Sano, who has played four games for the Japanese national team, was expected to join his new teammates for pre-season training this Sunday.
