In a surprising turn of events, shot putter Abha Khatua, despite overcoming a personal tragedy, has been excluded from India's Paris Olympic squad. The national record-holder, who left for Turkey with other athletes, found her name missing from the official list of participants.
Khatua had made the cut for the Paris Games through the world rankings quota. However, she is not among the 117 athletes approved by the sports ministry. The Athletics Federation of India had initially listed 30 members in the track and field team, now reduced to 29 without any explanation.
The federation and World Athletics have declined to comment on her exclusion, sparking speculation and concern about the reasons behind this decision. Khatua's Olympic dream, marred by unclear circumstances, leaves the sporting community awaiting answers.
