A Spanish court has issued an eight-month suspended prison sentence to an individual who racially insulted Real Madrid players Vinícius Júnior and Antonio Rudiger online.
The offender, whose identity remains undisclosed, was found guilty of harming the moral integrity of the players, both of whom are Black. The offensive remarks also targeted Rudiger's Islamic faith.
After agreeing to participate in an anti-discrimination awareness program, the offender avoided actual jail time. The comments appeared on the Marca website, a popular Spanish sports news outlet.
This sentencing follows a similar case in June, where three Valencia fans received eight-month prison sentences for racially insulting Vinícius during a match. The continuing racial abuse Vinícius faces during away games underscores persistent racism issues in Spanish professional soccer.
