England has set a new record by scoring the fastest-ever fifty in just 4.2 overs against the West Indies on the first day of the second Test. Openers Ben Duckett, who scored 33 off 14 balls, and Ollie Pope, with an unbeaten 16 off 9 balls, collectively hit 10 boundaries.

This achievement allowed England to break their own previous record of reaching 50 runs in 4.3 overs, set against South Africa at The Oval in 1994. England’s aggressive approach has them holding the top three positions in the fastest team fifties list, with their next best coming in 5 overs against Sri Lanka in 2002 at Old Trafford, Manchester.

Sri Lanka ranks fourth, having reached 50 runs in 5.2 overs against Pakistan in Karachi in 2004, while India is fifth with two 50-run opening stands in just 5.3 overs—first against England in Chennai in 2008 and again against the West Indies in Port of Spain in 2023.
