Indian rider Kavin Quintal is poised for a landmark debut at the World SBK SSP300 competitions, becoming the first Indian to participate in a World Superbike Championship. According to a press release by World SBK, Kavin’s entry was facilitated by the Irish team 'Team#109' and its management company, Gaman Racing Global Service. The event will commence in Most, Czech Republic on Friday.
The 19-year-old Chennai sensation will be stepping in for the team's main rider, Spaniard Daniel Mogeda, who was injured while leading the Supersport 300 class. Quintal expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity, emphasizing his intent to learn and enjoy the experience. 'It is a great opportunity that I will try to learn and enjoy at the same time,' he stated. 'I will be able to show my maximum level together with a great team that surrounds this structure. I would like to thank the team for this opportunity.'
Kavin, currently competing in the European Stock Championship within the FIM JuniorGP and the Asia Road Racing Championship, has a notable record. In the three rounds of JuniorGP, he achieved a top-10 finish. Starting his career as the youngest rider to earn points in Indian National events at 13, Kavin won the Talent Cup twice, in 2021 and 2023. Transitioning from the Asia Talent Cup, he matured as a rider in Europe. Paul Tobin, the team manager of Team 109, warmly welcomed Kavin and praised his experience.
'I would like to welcome Kavin to the team for the weekend to replace Daniel. Kavin Quintal has good experience in the Asia Talent Cup and in the Stock 600 in the FIM JuniorGP. We are very happy to have the first Indian rider in the World Championships,' Tobin said. Practice sessions will start on Friday, followed by races on Saturday and Sunday at Most, Czech Republic.
