Dunith Wellalage and Pathum Nissanka's composed fifties led Sri Lanka to a respectable 230 for 8 against India in the first ODI on Friday. Despite slow-bowler-friendly conditions, the total is significant for Sri Lanka's chances.
Wellalage's unbeaten 67 off 65 balls featured seven fours and two sixes, while Nissanka added 56 off 75 balls. India's spin duo, left-arm orthodox Axar Patel (2/33 in 10 overs) and wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav (1/33 in 10 overs), were both economical and effective. Seamers Shivam Dube, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj also contributed with a wicket each.
In the last 20 overs, Sri Lanka managed to score 118 runs, providing them with a competitive total to defend against India.
