India's Deepika Kumari advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's individual archery event on Saturday by defeating Germany's Michelle Kroppen in a tightly contested 1/8 elimination round. The match ended with a 6-4 victory for Deepika, who will be in action again later in the day.
The match saw Deepika showcasing her skills. She scored 27-24 in the first set and 27-27 in the second, winning the third set 26-25. Although her German opponent claimed the fourth set 29-27, Deepika secured the fifth set with a 27-27 tie, thus winning the match overall.
In contrast, Bhajan Kaur faced a challenging opponent in Indonesia's Diananda Choirunisa. The Indonesian archer led 4-2 by the third set and eventually won 6-5 in a shoot-off. Despite Bhajan's strong performance, she was unable to advance past the 1/8 elimination round.
