Enea Bastianini of Ducati secured his maiden sprint victory at the British Grand Prix on Saturday. The 26-year-old overtook championship contender Jorge Martin in the sixth lap, having started in third position on the grid.
Bastianini expressed his elation saying, 'It's my first victory of the year, I'm so happy. My pace was good. Here at Silverstone, it's one of my favourite tracks.' The win propelled him to third in the championship standings.
Jorge Martin had initially taken the lead from pole-sitter Aleix Espargaro but eventually finished second. 'It was really nice to race here in Silverstone. I was pushing like it was qualifying, but finally, Enea was stronger,' said Martin, who now trails leader Francesco Bagnaia by just one point following Bagnaia's crash. Espargaro finished third, despite intense pressure throughout the race.
