In an unexpected turn of events during the Olympic road race, German cyclist Nils Politt found himself in an urgent situation. After getting into an early breakaway and feeling optimistic about his performance, Politt's stomach began to rumble, necessitating a quick detour to a nearby cafe for a bathroom break.
This moment, captured on video and quickly going viral, showed Politt handling the situation with the composure of a seasoned tourist. Upon exiting the cafe, he was greeted by a cheering crowd, though the delay cost him precious minutes in the race.
Politt explained post-race that the combination of a warm day, plenty of water, and energy gels led to his upset stomach. He completed the grueling 273-kilometer race but finished in 70th place, far behind the winner, Remco Evenepoel.
