Italy's para swimming sensation, Simone Barlaam, is eager to transform his experience from the COVID-delayed Tokyo Paralympics as he prepares for this year's Games in Paris. Despite his remarkable achievements in Tokyo, Barlaam struggled mentally due to the pandemic's impact.

Barlaam, 24, who specializes in 100 metres backstroke, 100 butterfly, as well as 50, 100, and 400 freestyle, was named Best Male Summer Sports athlete last year by the International Paralympic Committee. His goal for Paris is not only to excel but also to enjoy the event thoroughly.

Born with a hip deformity, Barlaam found refuge in swimming from an early age. He excelled in the sport and set a world record at last year’s World Para Swimming Championships in Manchester. Beyond medals, Barlaam aims to inspire social change through his journey, receiving countless messages from children with disabilities.
