Telecom operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) is set to enhance its network infrastructure in Kolkata by expanding new technology across 3000 sites. This development follows the acquisition of additional spectrum in the 900 MHz band.
As part of Vi's broader strategy to upgrade its network, this expansion aims to improve indoor coverage, calling capabilities, and data speeds for users. This move follows the company's successful Rs 18,000 crore Follow-on Public Offering (FPO).
Vi invested Rs 31 crore for 0.4 MHz of spectrum in the 900 MHz band in the Kolkata Circle and Rs 376 crore for 7.6 MHz of spectrum in the West Bengal Circle during the recent spectrum auction, bringing its total spectrum portfolio to 334.4 MHz in Kolkata and 536.8 MHz in West Bengal. 'Our goal is to provide the best network experience, and this upgrade is a testament to our commitment,' said Naveen Singhvi, Vodafone Idea Cluster Business Head for West Bengal, Assam & North East.
